Circle
Time & Finger Play Songs
With a multi-age group, Circle Time is a little different,
as we do not expect all children to be ready, or able, to sit for a
directed activity. Sign Language and hand and body movements are used
and taught to keep even the youngest child engaged. To begin, usually
only a small group of children will join the teacher. Children will
come and go as their interest and developmental levels dictate. The
older children sit and participate. They wait for their turn. The younger
children are more likely to wander away and back again. However, both
age groups benefit from this co-existence; the older children benefit
as leaders and the younger children benefit from watching and imitating
the older children. At TOT DROP, we have an amazing number of 18 month
olds who can sit for Circle Time songs.
Movement
Singing
and moving to all of the children’s
favorite songs provides a wonderful repetition of words and sequenced
coordinated movements to develop language and help them to gain control
of their wiggly bodies. Whether it's free dancing to a variety of
music styles or Ring-Around-the-Rosie or playing with parachutes,
these activities allow the children to explore their increasing agility,
balance and strength in a safe setting.
