Children may play on their own or
with others. The classroom is filled with toys, blocks, books,
manipulatives, doll houses, dress-up, books, tools, a toy kitchen
area, music, puppets, Legos, puzzles, cars, dinosaurs, trains,
baby dolls, music, and on and on.
This play is a child’s
work. As they play they are experimenting with physical relationships,
their coordination, and using their
imagination. This experimentation fosters their growing understanding
of cause and effect. Throughout they hone their social skills as
they share, cooperate and co-exist.
At TOT DROP,
teachers facilitate play and help to build the children's vocabulary
by
offering a “play-by-play” of the action.
(See detailed explanation in Language.) Through
play a child’s
language blossoms.
